SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN "FIRE ESCAPE"
Out 1. October on CD and limited edition LP
The relationship between Four Tet and Sunburned Hand Of The Man began in August 2003 when Four Tet, aka Kieran Hebden, read the August 2003 cover story of The Wire, which touted Sunburned Hand of the Man as leaders of the "New Weird America." That story sent Hebden on a search for Sunburned records and he's been a fan ever since. In 2004, Hebden asked Sunburned to tour with them. A couple of years later in March 2006, Hebden asked the band if they would like him to record them with the idea that he would take the recordings and construct his vision of a Sunburned record.
"Sunburned spent four hours in the London studio the Exchange last year, following Hebden's lead as he arranged the amorphous band into different subsets. Hebden made suggestions for what the band played, and they improvised from those suggestions. Hebden then reassembled and remixed an album from tracks of that session.
Sunburned co-founder John Moloney explained to Pitchfork, ’He would be like, 'I want two of you guys: Play drums and bass now. Everyone play flutes now. All vocals. OK, a couple of piano pieces.’ It's a bit like our older stuff, crossed with a Can record or a dance record. It's pretty cool.’
Hebden agreed: ’I was surprised that it came out sounding quite a bit like 23 Skidoo or Cabaret Voltaire. I think there's music in there that you could play in a club, which is an interesting twist on what they're doing.’’ [The album track “The Parakeet Beat” has now been remixed by Norway`s dance maestro Bjorn Torske for the 12” single from the album.] . . .
Moloney explained that the team-up worked simply because of how enthusiastic both Sunburned and Hebden are about sound. ’All the Four Tet records are basically what we've been doing as a ten-piece band done by one guy,’ Moloney said. ’Just playing whatever he feels like playing, whatever he likes. Kieran is definitely a bigger fan of music than anyone I know. He just listens to records all of the time." – Pitchfork Media
Hebden gave the finished album to Smalltown Supersound as he thought this would be a good home for the release. The label was thrilled. And as both Sunburned and Smalltown Supersound are big fans of Boredoms and the band`s creative leader Yamataka Eye`s art, he was asked to make the cover for the album. (Eye has released the art-books Weooem and Ongaloo and has made the cover for Beck`s Midnight Vulture s, as well as all the Boredoms covers.) The Eye artwork perfectly captures the band, the album and the sound.
BJØRN TORSKE "FEIL KNAPP"
Out now on CD
Double limited LP out in September
When Prins Thomas was asked the question “what is the most desirable signing if money grew on trees?” by Fact Magazine, his answer was; “if I could lure him out of his cave for a second I wouldn't mind getting some new stuff from Bjorn Torske”
And now; Bjorn Torske is finally out of the cave with a brand new album titled “Feil Knapp”! This is his first album since “Trøbbel” in 2001 (on Telle Records). In many ways “Feil Knapp” (Norwegian for wrong button) represents a sound that sits somewhere in between “Trøbbel”, 1999`s seminal “Nedi Myra” on Ferox and his underground cult hit “Søppelmann” on Svek. With influences ranging everything from Count Ossie and The Residents via 22 Skidoo to Idut Boys, Torske has created his very own and characteristic signature sound, a unique blend of warm and melancholic house, quirky avant-disco, leftfield electronica and dark, heavy psychedelic dub. In other words; this album has everything that we have learnt to love Bjorn for. Weirdly melodic and wonderfully groovy.
Leading up the this album Smalltown Supersound has also released the two 12”s “Ny Lugg (kort bak/lang på siden) and “Kokt Kveite”. Torske is now working on remixes for Lindstrøm and Sunburned Hand of The Man.

“There hasn`t been a band taking drugs to make music to take drugs to that`s sounded quite this gloriously fuzzy and odd since Spacemen 3” (NME)
"Epic, throbbing tracks with such power" (MIXMAG)
Off the back of a huge tide of critical acclaim in Norway for their self-titled debut album, 120 Days hit the UK shores in April 2007 for the UK release of their album – preceded by a series of UK live shows, in February. Signed to Vice recordings for America, and Smalltown Supersound (Lindstrom, Bjorn Torske, The Whitest Boy Alive) for the rest of the world, 120 Days have over the past year found themselves a dedicated army of fans. The album recently reached number 1 in the Norwegian charts as well as receiving a Grammy nomination in their homeland. They have more recently been asked to remix Bloc Party, Justice and Lindstrom, whilst UK dance pioneers Underworld are huge devotees of the band. So what exactly are Norway’s newest exports all about? Unlike their peers - who are from a similar scene yet making music that’s far more stripped down and poppy - 120 Days are a quite different proposition altogether. Their music is designed for a stage of epic proportions. Formed by four old friends from Kristiansund (on the northwest coast of Norway), 120 Days in 2001 travelled to Oslo in search of excitement and inspiration with their music. It proved too expensive to live, so the band bought an old motor home, parked it in the street, and lived and played in it for a year. The result is somewhat representative of the cold, hard times they shared in this city – music born from a makeshift home on wheels at the side of a road in the middle of cold, cold city: this harsh environment coupled with the band’s love of NEU!, Suicide and Spaceman 3 came together in creating this new breed of deep tunnelling synth-rock. The CD will be released in limited edition with a bonus CD featuring a brand new remix of Sleepwalking done by 120 Days themselves as well as remixes from Secret Machines (their first ever remix), T.A. Kaukolampi (producer of Annie) and Mental Overdrive. 33 minutes extra music.

“Makes the last Rapture album sound like som rank American jam band"(9/10 VICE MAGAZINE)
Tussle came on the scene some years ago and immediately made a name for themselves with their uncontrived take on rhythm music. Their "coveted 12inch singles" (The Wire) on Troubleman Unlimited first caught the eyes of international crate-diggers and tastemakers alike - among them the Optimo DJs, John Peel (RIP) and Trevor Jackson. Behind those records, they toured Europe and Japan and played alongside a diverse cast of bands and artists, mirorring the band's no-genre approach - Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karlheinz Stockhausen, !!!, Gang Gang Dance, eYe (BOREDOMS), Andrew Weatherall, Zongamin, Sunburned Hand of the Man and Deerhoof. Upon release of their debut album, the critically-lauded KLING KLANG, the group were selected for URB Magazine's prestigious NEXT 100; and PITCHFORK picked the group as one of 5 artists to watch in the future. They continued playing unorthodox spaces/venues and in that time played in art spaces such as Deitch Projects, the Frieze Art Fair in London, San Francisco MOMA, and Jack Hanley Gallery, traveled to Scandinavia and did US tours with Outhud, Eats Tapes and Yellow Swans. Since then, the group's lineup has shifted. Bassist Andy Cabic left the group amicably in 2005 to be a permanent fixture in Devendra Banhart's group and to concentrate on his solo project Vetiver. Initially, this called the very future of the band into question. But sometimes blessings come in disguise. Now, with original drummer Alexis switching from drums to bass & percussion and new drummer Warren - who's played with Can's Damo Suzuki and Daevid Allen of Soft Machine/Gong fame - taking his place, the resultant album captures a group expanding their scope to dizzying effect. The overt nod to Jamaican Dub that defined their early sound is downplayed. In its place, TELESCOPE MIND is more experimental and yet more Pop. One moment, they hone in on explicit dance jams (kindly refer to tracks such as "Warning", "Second Guessing" or "Trappings" - the last of which will appear as a limited edition 12" released by White Columns art gallery in Manhattan), at others they happily pursue more abstract atmospheres (see "Cloud Melodie" and "Elephant"). There are traces of Faust and Cluster-like ambience, This Heat-ish and Tropicalia-like experimentalism, Bollywood rhythms, even Sound Library-like experimentation. On "Pow!", the group is joined Sal Principato and Dennis Young of LIQUID LIQUID, the legendary NYC rhythm group, recently heard on DFA's "Compilation #2". Tussle was thrilled to have them contribute, as they are heroes to the young men. In the end, TELESCOPE MIND points to a group who, so unlike the contrived groups who form for shallow, disposable QuickFame, prefer to make music for music's sake. So it takes them somewhere. This is an album that is adventurous and captivating and just too easy to love. And it may just prove to be one of the highlights of this year. Prior to the album, Smalltown Superosound will release a 12" single with remixes a 10 minutes long epic mix by Hot Chip as well as a mix by Glasgow`s hottest; Optimo.
LINDSTRØM "ITS A FEEDELITY AFFAIR" CD
Out now!
It is with great pleasure that Smalltown Supersound can announce that the label will release Lindstrom`s debut album “It’s a Feedelity Affair” in collaboration with Lindstrom himself and his Feedelity label. The album will be released the 23th. of October 2006 and includes among others his hits “Another Station” and “I Feel Space”. The liner notes are written by NYC producer Daniel Wang. Both Smalltown Supersound and Lindstrom/Feedelity are from Norway and a mutual trust, respect and understanding led to this collaboration. Lindstrom has obviously got many offers from records labels around the world, but he chose to stay independent and have control of his own music. Smalltown Supersound on the other hand found a soulmate in Lindstrom and the perfect sound for the label in Lindstroms`s music. Lindstrom fitted perfectly with the labels electro/electronica/pop roster with artists such as Bjorn Torske, Tussle, 120 Days, Kim Hiorthoy, Toy, Lars Horntveth, Jaga Jazzist and Mental Overdrive, the core of the label being Norwegian electronic music. Lindstrom`s career took off after a string of critically acclaimed 12” singles that alone started a movement the press later would call “space disco”. He is also well known for his remixes and has among others remixed LCD Soundsystem, Roxy Music, Franz Ferdinand, Annie and DFA`s Juan McLean. Last year Lindstrom also released a duo album with Norwegian DJ and friend Prins Thomas, titled “Lindstrom and Prins Thomas”, an album that was released on Eskimo Records to wide critical acclaim. His most famous track and 12” , “I Feel Space” (released on both Playhouse and Feedelity), has now sold 17 000 copies, an impressive number these days for a vinyl only release. But now its finally time to compile all of Lindstrom`s seminal 12” on CD and download for the first time. The album also includes The Contemporary Fix, a new track from the 12" vinyl-single which has already been supported by Pete Tong and Annie Mac on BBC radio. Early in 2007 we will also release a single/EP from the album with a remix by EYE of the Boredoms.
BJØRN TORSKE "NY LUGG (KORT BAK/LANG PÅ SIDEN)" 12"
Out now!
We are very proud to announce the new signing on Smalltown Supersound, Bjørn Torske. We have been big fans of Torske for many years and we are now finally getting to work with this great artist. This is Bjørn Torske`s first release since the wonderful 2002 album “Trøbbel” on Telle Records. He set the Smalltown Supersound office on fire with his brilliant psychedelic disco mix of Mental Overdrive`s “Diskodans” track (the remix was done under the name Dr Senneps Hevn). The remix lead to this 12” and will continue with an album in 2006. The title track is quirky avant-disco in typical Torske style, followed by two long tracks of dark, heavy, psychedelic, dubbed out avant-garde dance/electro. The last track on the 12”, Dübet, features the Bjorn Torske Big Band which is: Jørgen “Sir Dupermann” Træen of Toy, John Hegre of Jazzkammer/Kaptein Kaliber and David Asheim of Kaptein Kaliber. This 12” contains 30 minutes of new music from Bjørn Torske.

“Prozac-flavoured glory” (BBC)
This is the self titled debut album by Toy. Toy is an electronic duo formed by UK composer Alisdair Stirling and producer Jorgen Traeen from Bergen, Norway. Toy's playful tunes mixes Radiophonic Workshop, The Residents (around Diskomo), Silver Apples, Frank Zappa and Japanese style electronica (from YMO to Zongamin and Cornelius) with their own Scandinavian electro weirdness roots. Combining the analogue synth sounds of the 70s with kids TV, leftfield dance music and electro, Toy creates wonderful and infectious pop. Jorgen Traeen runs the important Duper Studios in Bergen, a space he also shares with Røyksopp, Telle Records and Bjorn Torske among others. Traeen is a well known producer who among others has produced Sondre Lerche, Magnet and Jaga Jazzist. He also has his own solo project Sir Dupermann on Smalltown Supersound. Although a Londoner Stirling has his roots in Bergen where he is the driving force behind the Bergen pop workshop/collective 'House of Hiss'. Toy released 'Rabbit Pushing Mower/Valley Cars' in 2002 as a vinyl seven inch on Telle Records described by the BBC as “an amusing cream puff of a tune”. As Telle Records is having a break, the label kindly handed Toy to Smalltown Supersound. This resulted in a new 7” single "Sedan Through Tunnel/Decorama". Both singles sold out quickly. The track “Rabbit Pushing Mover” (from the album) will open their friend Annie`s DJ Kicks mix album for Studio K7 (out late in October 2005). The track is also featured on Annie`s “Digital EP”.
TUSSLE "KLING KLANG" CD

"Writhing junkyard disco so limber your spine may spontaneously dissolve." (VICE MAGAZINE)
Sprung from SF’s active underground Mission district scene, Tussle has been causing a stir for some time with their unique combination of dance rhythms, elastic basslines, metallic textures, and processed electronic experimentation. Kling Klang is their debut album and was preceded by two 12" singles and a CD EP all released by Troubleman Unlimited in the United States. The Smalltown Supersound edition collects the bulk of Kling Klang and also includes highlights from their first two singles and their own extended Neu!-inspired remix of "Here It Comes" from their White Label DJ single of the song. Tussle have picked up support from Trevor Jackson (Output/Playgroup), John Peel, Scott "Prefuse 73" Herren. Feature pieces appeared in i-D (UK), Tokion, XLR8R, Anthem, Rockpile, Punk Planet, even Entertainment Weekly and Jane. Very positive reviews appeared in The Wire, Vice, Magnet, Skyscraper, and Dusted Magazine. The ever hard-to-impress scribes at Pitchfork hailed the group one of the top 5 artists to look out for in the coming year(s). See detailed press under. Tussle has toured Europe, Japan and the East Coast of the United States. In Europe, they supported friends and labelmates Erase Errata, as well playing alongside Andrew Weatherall, Zongamin and Sunburned Hand of The Man. In the UK, they played Hot Shit! (formerly Sonic Mook Experiment), the Frieze Art Fair Afterhours and Trash. Their brief tour in Japan found them supporting Eye of Boredoms. In shows in SF and NYC, they've shared stages with a diverse international cast that mirrors the group's uniquely genre-free approach including Mu, Deerhof, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ariel Pink, Add N To (X) to name a few.
