2. The Past (Version by STUDIO)
SIDE B.
3. PS (Version by MAUVE DEEP)
4. La Symphonie Pastorale (Version by ETIENNE JAUMET)
On the heels of his critically–acclaimed album The Soft Wave, ARP (born Alexis Georgopoulos) releases the single Pastoral Symphony.
Remixers include Sweden’s finest Balearic STUDIO, the visual artist Keegan McHargue’s first release as MAUVE DEEP and Carl Craig–chum ETIENNE JAUMET.
Side A features the original. As the title implies – the full title is Pastoral Symphony I. Dominoes II. Infinity Room – this 8+ minute epic comes in two parts. Part I. Dominoes unfolds in a hazy blown out sheen, a rippling bass cycle underpinning a gloriously distorted synth melody. The mood is romantic and yearning. Things peak in a tumble of trembled Minimoog tunnel before a soft come down that fades into the second section. Part II. Infinity Room is name in homage to those minimalist rooms built by Yayoi Kusama and Lucas Samaras in which everything in said room is multiplied infinitely in a boxed cascade of mirrors. As such it builds and builds towards some infinite reach.
STUDIO’s remix is a taut electro–funk workout. Like their original material, there are nods to The Cure, Balaeric and even soundtrack music.
MAUVE DEEP reclaims the original’s cosmic intentions. On a cloud of minutely repeated patterns, nearly unaugmented tracks move sideways, like so many shifting tectonics.
Somewhere between Terry Riley, Oval and the stratosphere, this mix finds is celestial harmony. And it’s fully blissed.
ETIENNE JAUMET, whose recent Night Music (Domino) was mixed by Carl Craig, returns the favor with a mix that finds that perfect middle point between Craig’s moody minimal techno and Psychic TV’s early nods toward Detroit. Moody man.
Most recently, ARP toured in support of Caribou. He is currently working on various remixes and is recording his new album.

Premiere: Lindstrøm/Todd Terje/Diskjokke trio aka Smalltown Superstars

Fader has got a very special collaboration together for Oslo´s By:Larm Festival Thursday 17. February at Stratos venue. For the very first time on the same stage the space disco kings; Lindstrom, Todd Terje and Diskjokke aka Smalltown Superstars. In addition Fader will also present the swedish Niki and the Dove (Moshi Moshi). After the gigs there will be DJ sets from Fader and the DFA label. Then Matthew Schnipper from Fader and NYC buddy Jonathan Galkin from DFA Records (LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip) will spin records together.
From Matthew Schnipper / Fader Magazine:
From New York, it’s always seemed magical that Scandinavia has so much warm music. How is it that some place that touches the Arctic Circle can make variations on dance music that seem appropriate only to be played in the summertime with distant fireworks? Yet somehow some of the most fun, most ecstatic music we hear is coming from such a small scene. So, asked to host a FADER event at by:Larm it seemed an obvious choice to pull in acts there (Norway) that fit in so seamlessly here (New York). We are lucky enough that Lindstrom,Todd Terje and Diskjokke are coming together to perform as a trio, something undoubtedly worth trekking out in the Nordic winter for. And that Niki and the Dove, a group who is soon to be, FADER thinks, pretty important in the States play not too far from their home in Sweden. So as much as we wanted to put together a strong event for others, we selfishly wanted to see some music we love. Hopefully you will, too.

New Young Galaxy track on The Guardian

What happens when you hand over your songs to a Swedish producer and don’t hear anything back for nine months? Great pop, apparently …
Canadian four-piece Young Galaxy decided to shake things up when it came to working with a producer on their forthcoming third album, Shapeshifting. They sent a demo to Swedish sound boffin (and Studio member) Dan Lissvik, who held on to the tracks for nine months and only let the band hear updates via Skype. Thankfully, if We Have Everything is anything to go by, they made the right decision. Ditching shoegaze for a more summery sound, Lissvik adds cascading keyboard figures and handclaps. Joyous.
