Lindstrøm & Christabelle 18th best album of 2010 on Resident Advisor

December 16, 2010Comments Off

Lindstrom & Christabelle’s Real Life Is No Cool is voted the 18th best album of 2010 by Resident Advisor.

Some of the songs on Real Life Is No Cool were almost ten years old. So a lot of the time that I spent working more recently was trying to make sure that they sounded like an album. Every track seemed to have a lot of different versions, so there’s actually going to be a digital-only version of the album soon which will have some of those on there. I can’t tell you how many versions of “Keep It Up” and “Baby Can’t Stop” there are. It was really hard sometimes to pick which one to put on the album.

Lindstrøm & Christabelle’s Lovesick 52 best track of 2010 on Pitchfork

December 15, 2010Comments Off

Lindstrøm & Christabelle’s Lovesick is voted the 52 best track of 2010 by Pitchfork. This is what they say:

This is one of the least likely Cadillac jingles in history. Just a few years back, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm crafted a retro-futurist masterpiece in his debut full-length, Where You Go I Go Too. But he pulled trump card when he announced he’d be making an album of pop tunes with a Mauritian woman singing lead. Here, Lindstrøm plays a frittering Moroder-type producer while Christabelle vamps Donna Summer, but the collaboration also recalls the friendship of No Wave pioneers Richard Hell and his literary muse Lizzy Mercier Descloux. Like Descloux, Christabelle barges like a tornado into Lindstrøm’s beats, lilting her unaffected, almost quizzical speak-singing as Lindstrøm frantically works to construct a backdrop, barely managing to accompany her temperament with a palm-muted 95 bpm set piece. –Mike Orme

Lindstrøm & Christabelle 9th best album of 2010 in Slant Magazine

Lindstrøm & Christabelle is voted the 9th best album of 2010 by Slant Magazine. This is what they say:

Norwegian DJ Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and vocalist Christabelle’s Real Life Is No Cool is a pop-funk odyssey that draws on early Massive Attack, Prince, and especially the space-disco of Giorgio Moroder. The album is, perhaps, Lindstrøm’s most accessible work to date (the single “Lovesick” appeared in a car commercial earlier this year and the U.S. version of the album is even more polished than the original Rough Trade incarnation), but despite clear standout tracks and copious pop hooks, it’s a testament to the strength of Lindstrøm’s singular vision that the album plays best as one whole piece, no small feat considering that it was at least seven years in the making.
